Fiat has received this award more than any other European manufacturer since the award began 40 years ago. Fiat is not currently available in the US market, but a deal with the struggling American manufacturer Chrysler is opening up new opportunities. As of January, 2009, a press release hit worldwide media informing us that Fiat would receive equity in Chrysler for exchange for investments. The final outcome of this agreement would be for Chrysler to begin manufacturing Fiat models in the US market. The details of the press release, according to worldcarfans.com are that Fiat and Chrysler will enter an alliance in which Fiat will take an initial 35 percent stake, with an option to raise its ownership to 55 percent at a later date.
