Acura Luxury MDX Auto Insurance
The world was introduced to Acura’s MDX (known as the Honda MDX in Japan and Australia) in 2001. The MDX – or Multi-Dimensional luXury – is the first SUV to have third row seating, use the VTM-4 AWD system to prevent wheel slippage and allow wet ground driving at low speeds. From 2003 to 2006, the MDX received structural and suspension upgrades. The engines also received an upgrade, increasing the horsepower by 20 hp in 2003 and an additional 5 hp in 2004. The 2004 model also saw the inclusion of dual tail pipes, side curtain airbags, new head and taillights and new wheels. In 2007, Acura released a completely redesigned MDX, changing to a wider track and wheelbase and an impact-absorbing body structure. 2008 to 2010 saw minor upgrades, such as navigation systems, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, and an updated grill.
The 2007 to 2010 models offer four different “packages.” The Technology Package includes a DVD-based satellite GPS navigation system with real-time traffic reporting, a surround sound audio system, rearview camera and a remote powered lift-gate. The Sport Package features active suspension dampers to improve handling, unique aluminum-alloy wheels, leather seats as well as items in the Technology Package. The Entertainment package offers a flip-down LCD screen with wireless headphones, second-row heated seats and is available with the Sport or Technology Packages. Finally, the Advance Package, introduced in the 2010 model, sports the adaptive cruise control feature, active damper suspension and ventilated seats.
The 2010 Acura MDX starts at $43,230 for the base package and peaks at $51,885 for the 2010 Advanced Package ($53,755 for the Advanced and Entertainment). The 2010 Acura MDX has a 300-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The 2001 and 2002 models use a 240-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The Acura MDX weighs approximately 4,500 pounds. The 2003 model is rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency at 23-mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city. The 2010 MDX is rated at 21-mpg for the highway and 16-mpg for the city. The MDX has won “North American Truck of the Year” award in 2001, Car and Driver magazine’s “Best Luxury SUV” award in 2005, Motor Trend’s “Sport/Utility of the Year” in 2005 and the “Top Safety Pick” award for its 2007 model.
