Auto Owners Insurance Company was founded in 1916 by Vern V. Moulton, who began the company with no capitol operating out of a small room located in a Mt. Pleasant, Michigan bank building. Surviving through the great depression, and maintaining the ability to meet the claim needs of its policyholders, Auto Owners expanded its insurance services to include causality insurance in 1940. Growing strong into the 1950’s, Auto Owners moved its headquarters to downtown Lansing, Michigan.
