The Audi R8 tantalizes those who have the wherewithal to obtain one. Is a 17-year-old too young to own their dream car worth $150,000 fully loaded? Well, 17-year-old New Moon heartthrob Taylor Lautner, definitely doesn't think so. Recently it was reported that Lautner tired of his snazzy BMW and opted to make a new, white Audi R8 his celebrity car of choice. This story was released after he was seen driving his date, Taylor Swift, around. What teenager wouldn't want a car like that, especially a celebrity making a good impression on an important date?
Taylor Lautner began his acting career in 2001 in "Shadow Fury." However, his biggest career role has been playing Jacob Black in the block-busting series "Twilight." Starring in these films has gained him the notoriety of superstar – more fuel for his celebrity cars and romantic dates. We all have a dream car we would like to own some day. Taylor Lautner realized his dream come true with his white Audi R8, which reflects his personal style and need for class in a car.
The Audi R8 was introduced in 2007 by the German automaker Audi and destined to reign as one of the top celebrity cars. In December 2008 Audi AG released the exotic Audi R8 at the North American International Auto show. Since then, it has continuously rated high in popular magazines. For example, Playboy magazine awarded the R8 the high title of Car of the Year in 2008. The Audi R8 won the World Performance Car of the Year and World Design Car of the Year in the "World Car of the Year awards" in 2008 as well. And, it's class hasn't only been recognized in the U.S. Canadians gave the Audi R8 the Best New Prestige Car and Best New Design 2008 awards in the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. Most recently, Motor Klassik readers rated the Audi R8 "the Classic Car of the Future 2009". So, what's so special about this car? It has a V10 5.2-liter internal combustion engine, which was modeled after the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The 2010 Audi R8 also has a number of safety features including ABS, traction control, side and knee airbags and an antiskid system. Other advanced features include Alcantara/leather sport seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, larger rear brakes and bi-xenon headlights (full LED headlights on the 5.2). It boasts top speeds of 196 mph, and the option of the rearview camera can be used to see heads turn as you drive by – an option necessary when your name is Taylor Lautner.
